You don't have to demean one song to elevate the other! Personally I prefer the "rough draft." Better driving rhythm and chorus is humorous in way Leroy's isn't. Too bad for the FCC, otherwise maybe he could've said "piss" instead of "spit" -- would have been even better!Robniscienthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02064188313601785399noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-981276246454831069.post-12155896122062802222021-05-12T06:12:36.433-07:002021-05-12T06:12:36.433-07:00slim was a pool shootin boy named willie mccoy, bu...slim was a pool shootin boy named willie mccoy, but down home they called him slim.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11518307904029024565noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-981276246454831069.post-64830802404263860702021-04-23T08:18:45.570-07:002021-04-23T08:18:45.570-07:00If your big, bad, tough and have a reputation as a t...If your big, bad, tough and have a reputation as a tough guy, like in both of these songs, just because they may have lost the fight or battle doesn't mean they are no longer Bad or tough,or feared! He's cut in about a hundred places and shot in a couple more. That's being shot a couple of times on top of about a hundred cuts. We also hear about the fact that Jim is the leader of the gang of 42nd street, driving a drop-top Cadillac, and that he robbed slim. There may be slightly more character development in Leroy Brown, but this comparison is a bit over the top. I found this discussion because I've always thought the two storylines were practically identical, and I wondered if others had the same thought. I also like Leroy Brown better than Jim musically, but I can't get on board with saying it's a so much better developed story.Merlin137https://www.blogger.com/profile/05230929139014619428noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-981276246454831069.post-40281564256876304272020-10-21T06:43:05.705-07:002020-10-21T06:43:05.705-07:00Slim's real name was Willie McCoy.Slim's real name was Willie McCoy.Maverick1945https://www.blogger.com/profile/17947788414340785339noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-981276246454831069.post-68900078495328258662020-06-02T19:14:46.917-07:002020-06-02T19:14:46.917-07:00Is Leroy Brown ... The irony is great and the poetic justice too. That said, I always liked Jim Croce as a songwriter. He penned some really thoughtful and introspective songs. I do really associate him with the 70s though, and I have a hard time imagining how he would have evolved and stayed relevant. Guess, we'll never know.Jeff McKownhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07146464664238780057noreply@blogger.com
